BBC Around the World

What was Shape our Future about?

Shape our Future was a chance for everyone in the BBC to learn more about the challenges we face and to contribute ideas on how we should

change to meet those challenges.

What were the sessions for?

The Shape our Future sessions gave staff a chance to feed their ideas into the reviews currently taking place – value for money, commercial review, content supply and out of London reviews – and provided insight into some of the wider global changes around you.

More about future challenges and the reviews.

Where and when were the sessions held?

The sessions were run at 16 locations around the world throughout September and into the first week of October.

What happened to the ideas generated during the sessions?

Ideas generated in these sessions are being collated and fed into the review process which will report back at the end of October. All ideas from these sessions will be considered and, while we can’t promise to use every idea, your contribution will be vitally important.

Will our ideas really be listened to?

Mark Thompson is serious about involving everyone in the review process and wanted to hear as many ideas as possible. Not all ideas will be used but Mark wanted to ensure that everyone could contribute to the debate about how we work going forward. Your ideas on how we can save money are be particularly useful as the best ideas are likely to come from the people who spend it.

Were these sessions like Just Imagine?

Like Just Imagine, these sessions provided an opportunity for you to contribute ideas on how we should to change. However unlike Just Imagine, Shape our Future offered the chance to learn more about the future challenges facing the BBC. For staff around the world, we also asked you for your ideas about building global value.

How does Shape our Future relate to Charter Review, Building public value and Making it Happen?

In June we launched Building public value, which is our contribution to the Charter Review debate. Shape our Future was held to generate ideas about how we can deliver the Building public value vision. Making it Happen has been charged with facilitating the process in its role as the vehicle for change at the BBC.

I have another question, who do I ask?

E-mail your questions to shapeourfuture@bbc.co.uk and we’ll get back to you with an answer.

Sorry, we're unable to accept any further comments and ideas about the four reviews.
