After nine months at sea, the USS Abraham Lincoln finally docked in Thailand this week. Reports of dire conditions on board added pressure to the Trump administration during the longer-than-promised war with Iran. Jonathan Head reports from Pattaya, a long-time R&R spot for the American military, which welcomed the arrival of some 5000 servicemen and women from the aircraft carrier's crew.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine back in 2014, there have been calls to cut back the use of the Russian language in the country - even in cities where the majority of Ukrainians speak Russian as a mother tongue. But there's also been a backlash against the moves to limit the use of the Russian language in the public sphere - as Tim Whewell heard in the predominantly Russian-speaking city of Odesa.

The Battle of Mohacs - a bloody defeat to Turkish Ottoman forces in 1526 - is often remembered as the biggest catastrophe in Hungarian history. It's a byword for national humiliation and disgrace - and often invoked as the root of Hungarian victimhood. But at events this summer to mark 500 years since the battle, Nick Thorpe found that the former PM Viktor Orban's loss in elections this spring has put a rather different spin on the planned commemorations.
