A huge police operation is underway in Erfut, in Germany, where the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is holding its annual party convention. Thousands of antifascist demonstrators are expected to stage rallies in the city.

Also on the programme: fears that the US may dramatically scale down its commitment to NATO ahead of the alliance’s upcoming summit; and Gen Z Americans from opposite poles of the political spectrum tell us what the 250th anniversary of independence means to them.
