Man charged to court after arson attack and assault

A 25-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and non-fatal strangulation after an arson attack and assault in east Belfast.

Police received a report of arson at a property in Finmore Court at about 03:00 BST on Monday.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, but was released on police bail to allow for further enquiries.

Three people - two women, one in her 40s and one in her 30s, and a man in his 30s - were inside the flat but were not injured.

The man is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
