Plans have been submitted for a major refurbishment of a waterfront skate park.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council said it would spend £400,000 on the site at Baiter Park.

The proposed upgrades are part of the authority's £4.6m Plan for Play project, which aims to improve about 120 play facilities across the area.

Sandra Moore, cabinet member for communities and partnerships, said the planning submission was "a significant milestone towards creating a skate park fit for the future".

"Whether you're the next Tony Hawk or simply trying to land your first Ollie, these proposals have something for everyone," she said.

The existing skatepark opened in 1999, and the council said the investment would modernise the site and help attract future generations of skaters.

The proposed design was developed with skatepark specialist Maverick Skateparks, as well as local users.

The council said the design was shaped around "flow, progression and inclusivity, with a mix of street features, transition elements and open space".

Russ Holbert, director at Maverick Skateparks, said it was "a real privilege" to help shape Baiter Skatepark's future.

"The passion, ideas and memories people shared have helped create a design that respects Baiter's history while giving the next generation something they can truly call their own."
