Three lanes of the M1 northbound between Derby and Nottingham were shut as repairs took place

The northbound side of the M1 between Nottingham and Derby has reopened after a number of pothole repairs led to delays.

On Tuesday morning, National Highways warned three lanes of the northbound carriageway, between junctions 25 for Derby and 26 for Nottingham, were closed due to "safety critical" defects.

A spokesperson for the highways authority said a number of potholes were identified during "routine inspections" of the motorway between junctions 24 and 30, and "planned repairs" were being carried out throughout the day.

Lane closures led to three miles of congestion and delays while repairs were carried out and the road was reopened at 11:43 BST.
