A special school in southern Scotland which suffered "extensive damage" due to flooding is unlikely to reopen before the end of the week.

Langlands School - which is on the Northwest Community Campus in Dumfries - was closed on Monday due to a "significant water leak".

Dumfries and Galloway Council confirmed the problems had been caused by "an issue with a water tank".

"It is likely the school will remain closed for the remainder of the week to allow for repairs to be carried out," it added in a statement.

Langlands is a school for secondary-aged children with severe and complex additional support needs and serves a large catchment area across Dumfries and Galloway.

For many years it had its own separate site off Lovers Walk in the town but moved to the new campus on Alloway Road in 2018.

According to the council's website, it has a roll of about 30 pupils.

The council said the headteacher was keeping parents and carers up to date with the situation and the school would only reopen after "extensive testing and repairs" had been carried out.
