Town bus station upgrade after £250k funding boost

A town's bus station is set for improvements after £250,000 was secured from the county council.

Babergh Disctrict Council said the money would be spent on the Hamilton Road site in Sudbury, Suffolk, "to better meet the needs of users".

The council said "detailed plans" would be developed but did not give a timeline for when the work might start or be completed.

Deborah Saw, Babergh District Council leader, said: "This is good news for Sudbury. We are looking at a range of improvements that might be possible within this funding."

Saw said waiting areas, passenger information, the general layout and toilet facilities would be improved under the plan.

The council said it would also carry out a feasibility study to explore longer-term options for the bus station.

Saw said: "The new funding supports improvements which are desperately needed in the short-term.

"But we do recognise there is a more wide-ranging discussion about what we need from a Sudbury bus station in the longer-term.

"The feasibility study will cover all options – this could range from reconfiguring the existing site to a complete relocation."
