Firefighters had to dig around the mule

Firefighters helped to free a mule trapped up to its neck in mud.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service was called to a farm in Great Hallingbury on Wednesday.

The crew from Old Harlow managed to dig around and release the 12-year-old animal.

Crew manager Joe Fisher said: "It was such a relief to see her up and about, eating and reuniting with her herd, and she even came up to us and let us stroke her."
