Karbon Homes is launching a new charity to support communities

A social housing provider has launched a new charity with the aim of helping improve people's "social and financial wellbeing".

Karbon Homes, which is based in Northumberland and operates across north-east England, said the Karbon Foundation will provide people with skills and training, tackle social isolation and invest in local communities.

Karbon Group CEO Paul Fiddaman said its new charitable arm would strengthen its "community impact activities, at a time when it's needed most".

It has been approved by the Charity Commission and will begin operating across the North East and Yorkshire in the summer.

Fiddaman said the new organisation will "widen the reach of our existing support services and access different funding, ensuring more people feel supported, and continue to build on the strong relationships we have with local charities, community groups and partners".

Six trustees have been appointed to the Foundation board, including Karbon Homes' head of customer services Ian Johnson and its group director of governance Russell Hall.

They are joined by the health and wellbeing charity Rise's CEO Clare Mosley, Together Initiative chief executive John Knight, Northumbria University financial controller Tessa Assadian and Karbon customer Michael Lisle.
