Six people rescued after fire in Plumstead flats

Six people, including a child, have been rescued by firefighters, and four further people led to safety, after a fire broke out at a three-storey building in Plumstead, south-east London in the early hours of Thursday.

Those rescued were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Sixty firefighters worked to put out the fire on Edge Hill, which started just before 01:35 BST, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed.

LFB said the fire had damaged a number of flats, and had completely destroyed some garages, a caravan and nearby cars.

Crews from Plumstead, East Greenwich, Eltham and surrounding fire stations responded to the scene.

LFB said the fire was brought under control at 03.59.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
