Jim Davis, 73, was "a much-loved uncle, brother, and brother-in-law", his family said

Tributes have been paid to a 73-year-old man who died after approaching two people who had thrown a large branch at a cyclist.

The family of Jim Davis, from Cheltenham, said he was "one of the kindest people anyone could have the pleasure of meeting".

Davis was punched and fell to the ground in Honeybourne Way on 8 April after he approached two people who had thrown a branch from Millenium Bridge onto a cyclist below, Gloucestershire Police said.

While the cyclist was unharmed, Davis died in hospital two days later. A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of his murder and remains on bail.

A 16-year-old boy who was also arrested will face no further action, according to police.

Paying tribute to Davis, his family said he was "a much-loved uncle, brother, and brother-in-law" and "a friend to so many".

"He was caring, compassionate, and always putting others first," they said.

"He made sure no-one around him ever felt alone, and his love of motorcycles brought him into contact with many people, forming friendships wherever he went.

"With a natural warmth and a gift for storytelling, he shared his life with great joy and, in doing so, touched a remarkable number of lives.

"Our lives will never be the same without him, and we know that many others will share in the sadness we feel."
