City parks secure Green Flag status for third time
City of Doncaster CouncilEight parks managed by Doncaster City Council have been given Green Flag awards for the third year in a row.
The Green Flag scheme recognises parks and green spaces which are exceptionally well-maintained, clean and safe.
The eight given the status in Doncaster are: Bentley Park, Campsall Country Park, Cusworth Hall Park, Elmfield Park, Hexthorpe Park, Quarry Park, Sandall Park and Town Field.
The award is given to only the best-kept parks, assessed by expert judges at environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
Doncaster mayor Ros Jones said: "A lot of work goes into making sure that these sites meet the highest standards and it's an honour to see that effort being recognised once again by the Green Flag judges.
"We take great pride in looking after our parks and green spaces, as we know just how much they mean to local residents, families and communities."
Danny Lawson/PASandall Park was the first in Doncaster to secure Green Flag status back in 2017.
Brian Greathead, chairman of the Friends of Sandall Park, said: "As a volunteer-led community group, we're incredibly proud of what we've achieved together."
"Over the years we've worked hard to make the park a welcoming, inclusive space for everyone, with free family events, environmental projects, and opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy the outdoors."
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag award manager at Keep Britain Tidy, was impressed by the standard of Doncaster's green spaces.
He said: "City of Doncaster Council has shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed. We want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard."
