Passengers could face delays because safety inspections have led to a shortage of trains.

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), which operates Thameslink and Great Northern, said services were affected on its Peterborough to Horsham, Cambridge to Brighton and Brighton to Bedford routes. Delays were expected until about 12:00 BST.

GTR said it had identified damage to pantographs, the roof-mounted arms which connect trains to the overhead electric wires, on some of its Class 700 trains.

"We're telling customers to check their journeys online before travelling, as some services will be disrupted while we inspect and repair the pantographs where needed," said a GTR spokesperson.

They added: "Running trains with damaged pantographs could cause severe damage to the overhead lines and the trains themselves, so we must keep these trains off the network until repairs are complete."
