Properties evacuated due to roof fire at home

A home has been badly damaged and neighbouring properties have had to be evacuated because of a roof fire which broke out overnight, a fire service says.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) said it was called to Lenham Avenue in Saltdean shortly before 21:00 BST on Wednesday.

Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to tackle the roof fire.

No-one was injured and the cause of the fire will be investigated, ESFRS says.

The operation was scaled back at about 22:40 and the fire service said it would carry out a re-inspection of the building at about 07:30 on Thursday morning.
