A truckload of tomato sauce has been spilt over a road after a lorry overturned leading to a bottleneck for traffic.

The A148 has been closed near Fakenham at the A1065 Swaffham Roundabout, Norfolk County Council announced in a social media post.

Police at the scene said the lorry was carrying condiments at the time, leading to the ketchup spill and a clean-up operation would now get under way.

A spokesperson for the force said officers were called at 01:01 BST and one lorry was involved in the incident, with the driver suffering minor injuries.

They added that an ambulance was initially called, but was then stood down.

Officers said the road needed to be washed down before it could be reopened and a team was expected before midday.

Traffic has been queuing at the site and police have advised motorists to avoid the scene and use the B1105 then B1355 as an alternative route.

The fire service said it was called to reports of a crash at 01:04 BST and that the scene "was made safe".
