A murder investigation has been launched after a man died two days after he was stabbed in the leg.

The 36-year-old was found injured at a house on Berwyn Avenue in Blackley, Manchester, at 02:45 BST on Saturday following reports of a disturbance.

He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries on Monday morning.

A 29-year-old woman, who was initially arrested on suspicion of wounding and assaulting a police officer, was now being questioned on suspicion of murder, Greater Manchester Police said.

The force previously said the police officer was not seriously hurt.

Det Insp Terina Arthern said the suspect and victim were known to each other and described the attack as an "isolated incident" with "no threat to the wider community".

"I would like to express my sincere condolences to the victim in this case," she said.

"We have informed his next-of-kin and our thoughts remain with his family and friends.

"Our investigation has been moving at pace since the weekend to establish the facts."
