The event in the Hampshire village traces its origins back more than 750 years

The annual Wickham Horse Fair has returned with thousands expected to attend.

Wednesday's event in the Hampshire village traces its origins back more than 750 years and is a major event for the Gypsy, Roma and traveller communities.

Several main roads have closed to accommodate the fair, and Hampshire County Council has advised road users not from the area to use alternative routes around Wickham while restrictions are in place.

Here is what you need to know.

Road restrictions

Wickham Square will be temporarily closed to traffic until Thursday at 10:00 BST.

The A334 between its junction with Blind Lane/Titchfield Lane and its junction with A32/ School Road will also be closed until Thursday at 10:00.

Signed diversions are in place though access for emergency vehicles will be facilitated.

More detailed information of these traffic arrangements can be found here.

Temporary bus stops

Buses have been advised of a diversion route using Forest Road, Bishops Wood Road, and the A32.

A temporary bus stop will be set up on the A32 near the junction with Wyckham Field.

The council has advised passengers to check travel arrangements directly with bus operators.
