Man fined for dumping buckets of waste near Stonehenge
Wiltshire CouncilA man has been fined and ordered to clean up his own mess after dumping multiple buckets of rubbish on a road near Stonehenge.
The van driver, from Amesbury in Wiltshire, was caught on CCTV unloading eight builders' buckets of soil and assorted garden waste.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been fined £1,000 after an investigation by Wiltshire Council.
Martin Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "There is simply no excuse for dumping waste illegally. It harms our environment, risks public safety and places an unfair burden on local communities."
Wiltshire CouncilThe man was interviewed under caution one week after the incident and admitted the offence.
Smith added: "Fly-tipping is completely unacceptable, and this case shows just how quickly we can act when we have strong evidence and effective partnerships in place.
"From the moment the waste was spotted to the vehicle being seized and a fine issued, the investigation took less than a week."
The vehicle was later returned to its owner.
A council spokesperson added the authority has significantly increased its covert and overt CCTV capability across the county to crack down fly-tipping and other environmental crimes.
