Plans have been lodged for up to 825 homes and a primary school in Leicestershire.

Hallam Land Ltd has submitted a planning application to Blaby District Council for a housing development west of the growing community of New Lubbesthorpe.

Documents state the proposed development on land off Desford Road would contain sports pitches as well as a local centre containing space for retail use.

They also say 25% of homes in the scheme would be classed as affordable and there would be properties designed for elderly residents.

The developers said in their application the scheme would "significantly contribute" to meeting housing need in the Blaby District Council area, as well as well as some of the unmet housing shortfall in Leicester.

Most of the proposed development - which spans 45.88 hectares (113.37 acres) - would be located on undeveloped agricultural land, the documents said.

"The mix of housing will also help to create a diverse and inclusive community in a sustainable location already supported by a broad range of existing and planned facilities, services and infrastructure, and at a scale which can support additional provision on site," the application states.

Planners at the district council will now consider the submission.
