The swimming pool at Deben Leisure Centre will reopen as planned next week, a councillor said

A swimming pool which has been closed for three months is set to reopen following the completion of works designed to make the facility more environmentally friendly.

The pool at Deben Leisure Centre, in Woodbridge, Suffolk, shut in early April for upgrades as part of an East Suffolk Council decarbonisation project.

It saw improvements made to its roof and the installation of low-carbon heating and energy systems, which will reduce emissions and lower energy consumption.

The complex will welcome back swimmers on Monday, which Sarah Whitelock, cabinet member for communities, culture, leisure and tourism, is "delighted" about.

"These important upgrades will transform the centre into a more sustainable, energy-efficient facility while maintaining the high-quality experience," she said.

"I'd like to thank our customers for their patience during the temporary closure. This investment ensures the centre remains fit for the future."

During the closure, workers also renovated the showers, gave the facility a fresh paint job, and carried out a "comprehensive" deep clean of the pool and changing facilities.

"This ensures the whole facility is refreshed and ready to welcome customers back," added Whitelock.

Further work is also planned at the site, operated and managed by Places Leisure on behalf of East Suffolk Council, including upgrades within its plant room.

The installation of a solar panel carport in the main car park will also soon get underway following the approval of planning permission.

The project is funded through the government's Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme alongside East Suffolk Council investment.

"To minimise disruption, only small sections of the car park will be closed at any one time, with works phased over approximately three weeks," a spokesperson said.
