Merseyside Police said the increased activity followed reports of anti-social behaviour and criminality in the area

Twelve people have been arrested and weapons seized during a police operation targeting violence and anti-social behaviour.

The activity took place in north Liverpool, where officers carried out extra patrols, including 70 stop searches on Thursday and Friday.

Boys aged 14 and 16 were among those detained after officers recovered an axe and machete, while other arrests were linked to suspected drug offences.

Insp Sean Harrison said: "These results should send a clear message to anyone carrying weapons, dealing drugs, or engaging in criminality in our communities that we will take robust action and bring offenders before the courts."

Multiple arrests made

On Wednesday officers spotted an e-bike being ridden by two males dangerously on pavements on Rice Lane.

An axe and a machete were recovered and a 16-year-old boy from Liverpool and a 14-year-old boy from Maghull were arrested.

Other incidents over the past few days included:

  • A group of youths wearing balaclavas
  • A knife found hidden behind a bin
  • A man being arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis after a car was stopped
  • A teenage man and woman being arrested for conspiracy to supply cannabis.

Harrison said officers would continue to target those involved in criminal activity and urged residents to keep reporting concerns to police.
