Bridgnorth Town Council said it expected the section of road to be closed until 21 July

A section of the main route between Bridgnorth and Ludlow has been closed after a hole appeared in the road surface on Wednesday.

Shropshire Council said it was affecting an area of the B4364 south of Harpswood Bridge, not far from Bridgnorth.

It said work was being carried out to determine the cause of the hole and to decide what repairs were needed.

The authority added it planned to fill the hole early next week and until then a route diversion would be in place, via the B4368 and A49.

The council also said Severn Trent Water had carried out an inspection and had ruled out any leaks in the water main running underneath the road surface.
