Firefighters will monitor the scene of a wildfire involving moorland and woodland in Derbyshire overnight before continuing the operation into a fourth day.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Tintwistle Moor, above Woodhead Road in Glossop, at 22:11 BST on Wednesday.

The service said about 200 hectares (990 acres) of land was affected by the fire.

After leaving at midnight on Thursday, crews, along with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, returned to the scene at about 05:00 BST on Friday, with further work to continue into the weekend.

At about 21:00 on Friday crews again withdrew from Tintwistle Moor "for safety reasons" as darkness began to fall.

A spokesperson said: "A fire service presence will remain overnight to monitor the scene.

"A reinspection is scheduled to take place at 05:00 tomorrow supported by partners from Derby Mountain Rescue Team."

"We are also incredibly grateful to those who have offered to donate refreshments.

"Thank you for thinking of us and for your generosity - it is greatly appreciated."
