The A52 is closed in both directions following a "serious multi-vehicle" crash east of Derby.

National Highways said on Monday evening the road was closed between the junctions with the A5111 and the M1.

It said early reports indicated a number of vehicles had overturned and the road was expected to remain shut for a "prolonged period".

The body added there was about 2km (1.2 miles) of traffic caught within the closure and vehicles would be turned around when "safe" to do so.

It added Derbyshire Police were leading the response, supported by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance Service.
