Schools closed and homes without water in Baildon

Thousands of homes were without water earlier and two schools have been closed in Baildon after a fault in the network, according to Yorkshire Water.

The firm said an area around Temple Rhydding Drive was experiencing "no water or low water pressure" and it would take an estimated four to six hours to fix.

Hoyle Court School and Baildon C of E Primary School have both confirmed they will be closed for the rest of the day as a result of the problem.

Yorkshire Water said about 3,000 properties "could have been affected" but most would now have supply restored.

A Yorkshire Water spokesperson said: "We're aware that a number of properties in Baildon have been without water supply this morning, and we apologise for the inconvenience.

"This was the result of a fault with a pressure relief valve, which we are currently working to fix.

"In the meantime, we have clean water tanker on site, and have rezoned the network, so all properties should be back on supply soon."

A spokesperson for Baildon C of E Primary School said: "School has closed because it has no hot water.

"We hope to have this fixed as soon as possible and school is planning to be open on Monday."

Baildon resident and parent Jon Eaton, who has two children at Baildon C of E Primary School, said it had been a "total nightmare".

"On our road, there are three different families all working with different organisations, all of them struggling around for childcare, including one nurse who actually works in maternity," he said.

"People who are closer to the school haven't got water. They're really struggling using up water supplies that they've got in case of emergency to flush the toilet and things like that."
