Government workers are stepping in to make an unstable wall safe.

Jersey's Regulation Department said property owners at Rouge Bouillon in St Helier had been given time to appoint contractors and carry out necessary remedial work, but "sufficient progress has not been made to address the matter".

As a result, the department said it would use its powers to "carry out the works required to make the structure safe".

In its statement, the department said it had worked with the landowners throughout the process and it was committed to ensuring necessary safety measures were implemented as quickly as possible. The work was due to begin on Saturday and was expected to take up to two weeks, it added.

The latest development comes after Rouge Bouillon was temporarily closed for urgent repairs when a new road surface depression was discovered near the site of a sinkhole found in 2024.
