'Starmer ready to resign' and 'King to release tax returns'

Labour's leadership struggles are the focus of Sunday's papers. Sir Keir Starmer could announce his departure date as early as tomorrow, a Labour MP has told the Telegraph. According to another senior government figure who spoke to the paper, the prime minister is realising that "the game is up". Meanwhile, King Charles is pictured waving to crowds while at the Royal Ascot in Berkshire on Saturday, but the story concerns his personal tax bill being released for the first time.

Kemi Badenoch has stood down any prospect of working with Nigel Farage's Reform UK, according to the Mail on Sunday. Following Reform UK's "poor showing in last week's by-elections", the Tory leader has written a column for the newspaper in which she says about the two parties: "We are not the same, and voters are not ours to trade like football cards."

TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he is in remission from aggressive prostate cancer, the Sun on Sunday reports. The 66-year-old "had a test two months ago which showed the tumour has gone", the paper says.

And according to the Daily Star, there is a witch doctor in Ghana trying to meddle with World Cup results. Nana Kwaku Bonsam has said he will put a curse on "England's Harry Kane in a bid to help Ghana win on Tuesday", the paper reports.

The Sunday Times says Andy Burnham would sack Rachel Reeves as Chancellor, if he became prime minister. The paper says Ed Miliband, Pat McFadden, Wes Streeting and John Healey have all been mooted as potential successors.

A Labour source tells the paper that "you would start to see resignation from the middle to the end of next week" if the Sir Keir Starmer has not announced when he intends to leave his post.

According to the ObserverSir Keir is expected to resign on Monday. The paper says the expectation among his supporters is that he will set out a plan to leave in September, allowing his successor to be adopted at the Labour Party conference.

The Sunday Telegraph says it has been told by a senior government figure that the prime minister realises "the game is up".

Meanwhile a senior ally of Sir Keir's has told the Sun on Sunday there is "just a 25 per cent chance that he fights on now".
