Man in 80s dies in house fire

A man in his 80s has died in a house fire in Greater Manchester.

The man was found unresponsive by emergency services, who were called to the house in Foxwood Drive, Mossley, Tameside, at about 19:30 BST on Monday. He died at the scene, police confirmed.

A cordon remains in place and inquiries are ongoing, the force added.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson said five fire engines had attended the blaze.

"Crews arrived quickly and used four hose reels and five breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire," they said.

"Firefighters worked alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service and were in attendance for six hours."
