A road in Skye that was closed following a landslide on Friday has reopened to traffic.

Drivers were forced to make a 40-mile (64km) diversion after the A855 was covered in earth and stones at Idrigill Bends.

Highland Council says work to clear the debris and stabilise other areas of ground has been completed.

No-one was injured by the landslip - which was caught on CCTV from a nearby house.

The A855 road encircles the Trotternish peninsula in the north of the island.

Highland Council said: "The A855 at Idrigill Bends is now open to all traffic following the completion of remedial, stabilisation and drainage works.

"Thank you to road users and to the local community for their co-operation through the closure period following last Friday's landslide."
