A pedestrian has died after being hit by multiple vehicles including a police car.

Dyfed-Powys Police were called regarding concerns for the safety of a person seen on the A40 between the PC World roundabout and Abergwili roundabout, in Carmarthen, on Tuesday.

As officers reached the scene at about 21:50 BST, reports indicated several vehicles had crashed with the pedestrian, including a marked police car that was being used for a routine patrol.

The force described it as a "six-vehicle" crash.

No arrests have been made and the force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The force said inquiries to identify the pedestrian and next of kin were underway.

It added both carriageways of the road re-opened on Wednesday evening.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Dyfed-Powys Police.
