Shoppers evacuated after vehicle fire at Tesco car park in Glasgow

Car engulfed in flames outside Tesco store in Glasgow

Shoppers and staff have been evacuated after a vehicle blaze in a car park at a supermarket in Glasgow.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said two fire engines were sent to the Tesco Extra store on Maryhill Road at about 16:20.

Footage shared on social media showed a black car engulfed in flames in the corner of the covered parking area, beneath the shop floor.

Large clouds of black smoke were seen filling the car park and spilling out onto Maryhill Road.

People gathered in a supermarket car park while a fire engine is parked beside a large retail building. Several individuals sit on kerbs and grassy areas, with others standing nearby. Cars are parked around the site under a cloudy sky, and an exit sign is visible in the foreground.
The car park is below the shop floor and extends out the rear of the building

A Tesco spokesperson said: "Our Glasgow Maryhill Extra store is temporarily closed due to a fire in the car park which has now been extinguished.

"We apologise for the inconvenience."

The SFRS said there were no reported casualties and crews left the scene at 18:30.

Police Scotland confirmed officers attended to deal with traffic management.
