Arson arrest after vehicle fire on major bypass

A man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a car fire.

The blaze on the A35 Puddletown bypass, between Yellowham Hill (Troytown) and the A354 turn-off, was reported just after 05:20 BST, said Dorset Police.

Dorchester Fire Station said a crew found the vehicle "well alight and in the bushes on the side of the bypass". The fire was extinguished by about 08.45, it said.

The arrested man remains in custody, said police.

The A35 eastbound carriageway was closed just before 06:00 while firefighters dealt with the blaze, before reopening at about 09:20.
