Fraser Reid took this photo on the Brough of Birsay after crossing to the island at low tide. He said: "In a small coastal inslet we discovered people have been stacking stones into impressive towers. The tallest of them looks straight down toward the sea."

In plane sight: "The planned flypast of Red Arrows in Edinburgh was called off, but they were replaced by a C-17 Globemaster III flanked by two Typhoons," said Lesley Pert. "Crowds gathered on the Royal Mile and cheers went up as they flew overhead."

Victoria Apostol from Belgium says she took more than 1,000 pictures on her trip to Scotland, including some of Dunnottar Castle. She said: "Scotland is truly breathtaking - majestic, wild, mystical and unforgettable. Every landscape seems to tell a story, and I came home with wonderful memories of this extraordinary country."

Ciaran McAteer took this shot of his girlfriend Megan up Mount Keen. He said: "We ran into emperor moth caterpillars and got our first glimpse of an adder in the flesh. We also saw a group of stags, grouse, butterflies and the biggest dragonflies you've ever seen."
