Hospital care co-ordination centre gets approval

The new centre at Hull Royal Infirmary will cost £7.5m

Planning permission has been granted for a new £7.5m hospital care co-ordination centre, which bosses say will reduce waiting times and improve patient care.

The building at Hull Royal Infirmary will include a new patient discharge lounge for people who are fit to leave hospital, but are waiting for medication or transport.

The NHS Humber Health Partnership said the main aim of the site was to help free up space within the main building to create more acute clinical areas.

Construction is due to start in September and is expected to be completed in autumn 2027, the trust confirmed.

It also said it hoped the new Landsdowne building would provide a hub in which the care co-ordination and discharge teams could work "more closely together."

Jenn Orton, director of operational transformation, said: "The existing Discharge Lounges on the site were not only in need of renovation but were also housed in spaces we felt could be put to better use for acute patient care."
