Bus tour to help people spot cancer symptoms

A double-decker bus will travel around the West Midlands next month in a scheme to help people spot the early signs and symptoms of cancer.

The service will provide health checks and important screening information about the disease, the NHS said.

"Early diagnosis of cancer is vital. Detecting a problem early on can mean that treatment is more effective", it added.

Members of the public can first visit the facility in Birmingham on 8 September. The bus will then travel to other locations in September, such as Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Dudley, Wolverhampton and West Bromwich.

Cancer experts will travel to the locations, and visitors can attend between 09:30 BST and 15:00 BST.

The service aimed to give communities the opportunity to catch any warning signs of cancer as early as possible, NHS Birmingham and Solihull said.

The bus tour will give people a chance to talk to a number of professionals, from the NHS to charities Macmillan Cancer Support and Diabetes UK.

NHS staff and its partners will share signs to look out for, how to live the healthiest possible life and signpost people to useful services.
