Three people have escaped injury after a petrol bomb was thrown at a house in Downpatrick, County Down.

Police received a report at about 00:25 BST on Monday that two men, dressed in dark clothing, with hoods up and their faces covered, had thrown a lit item at the house in the Pound Lane area.

They then made off towards John Street.

Police officers and the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene. The fire had already been extinguished by one of the occupants.

Some damage was caused to the house, including scorch marks to the front of the property and the front door.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
